Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy on Monday criticised Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad for equating Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh with ISIS.

Reminding the Congress that former PM Jawaharlal Nehru had literally begged the RSS to participate in the Republic Day parade, Swamy said that remark was highly unwarranted. He said that Azad is a sycophant of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and was deranged and not capable to think and speak on issues.

It may be noted that ISIS chops off people’s heads on a daily basis. They dishonour women in the most barbaric manner. To compare ISIS with RSS is sheer stupid

ty. Azad should remember that his party icon Nehruturned up at a RSS shakha and asked them to take part in the Republic Day parade,” said Swamy.

“Former premier Lal Bahadur Shastri too asked the RSS to assist the government in maintaining law and order after Pakistan attacked India in 1965. RSS swayamsewaks can be seen doing rescue/relief  works during floods or other calamities. A recent example is the Nepal earthquake,” he added.

The senior BJP leader concluded by saying, ” Azad, as a former communist, is free to differ with RSS. He might not like the RSS ideologies, but that doesn’t mean that he has the authority to make such comments. Tomorrow, I might say that Azad is a Muslim and hence he is a member of ISIS, what impact will it have?” asked Swamy.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Salman Khursheed said if the RSS becomes good then nobody would compare them with bad people. “I advise it to become good.”

When asked about Asaduddin Owaisi that he would never say “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” even if a knife was put on his neck, Khursheed said, “May be he would say ammi zindabaad or meri walida zindabaad. His tongue and my tongue are not the same. Everybody have their own tongues.”

When asked if what Owaisi was anti-national, Khursheed said “I have no idea what is. All I know is I feel for my country. For me to link the independence movement is like associating with one’s parents. Some people don’t want to do it, it’s their choice. I have no problem.”
