In a tragic accident, at least 24 passengers were charred to death and 15 others injured when a Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) bus, carrying 41 passengers from Delhi caught fire after colliding with a truck on the national highway in Bareilly on the early morning of June 5.
The bus was on its way to Gonda, in eastern Uttar Pradesh. According to reports, the accident took place near Bada bypass on NH 24. The bus which was heading towards Gonda collided head-on with a speeding truck coming from the direction of Lucknow.

“The accident involving a bus of UPSRTC and a truck took place between 1.00 am and 1.30 am. 22 passengers of the bus died, while 15 received injuries,” Senior Superintendent of Police Jogendra Kumar had earlier said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed sympathy for those who lost their lives and sanctioned Rs 2 lakh each to the kin of those killed and Rs 50,000 for each of those injured.
“The bus accident in UP’s Bareilly is heart-rending. I condole the loss of lives. I pray that those injured recover at the earliest,” said Modi
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also condoled over the loss of lives and announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each to the kin of the deceased, Rs 50,000 to the seriously injured and Rs 25,000 for those who got minor injuries.
