17 killed, 33 hurt in bus accident on Mumbai-Pune Expressway




Around 17 persons were killed and 33 others were injured when a speeding luxury bus fell into a 20-feet-deep ditch near Shivkhar village in Raigad district on the Mumbai-Pune expressway.

The Raigad police said that the deceased included 10 men, six women, and one infant. More details are awaited.

The road accident took place around 5.00 am on 5 June as the speeding luxury bus collided with two cars who were changing the punctured tyre of one of the cars and jumped 15-feet off the highway into a farm.

The bus was coming from the direction of Satara and was headed to Mumbai and the accident took place in Navi Mumbai.

The injured were admitted to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital and Panacea Hospital in Panvel for treatment.

Meanwhile, Raigad police officers said that the death toll may rise as many of the injured have been grievously injured.
