14 dead, dozen injured as mini-truck falls into canal in Etah, UP

editedFourteen people died and nearly 28 injured in the wee hours on May 5 when a mini truck fell into a canal Uttar Pradesh’s Etah district.

The mini truck carrying 40 people was returning from a ring ceremony party.

As reported by a passenger, who lost four of his family members including a five-year-child, there was no divider on the roadside towards the canal, which led to this accident.

“Till now 14 casualties have been confirmed and the death toll may rise. The truck broke through the roadside railing and dived into the shallow drain which had about 2 feet of water,” said Satyarth Anirudh Pankaj, senior superintendent of police.

All the passengers belonged to Agra.

The injured were reportedly taken to SN Hospital.
